Is Nokia a dead duck in the smartphone market, as many US journalists seem to assume? Not according to iSuppli's latest market share stats.
The company claims that Nokia actually increased its global smartphone shipments market share from 38.5% in Q1 this year to 39.7% in Q2.
That means Nokia increased its lead over RIM, whose market share fell from 18.8% to 18.5% in the same period. Apple? It dipped too: from 15.7% to 13.9%.
iSuppli highlights the fact that Android smartphone makers are on the charge, pointing to big quarter-on-quarter increases for HTC, Samsung, Motorola and Sony Ericsson.
"Every brand that has put effort into designing smart phones using Google’s mobile operating system is riding the Android wave," says iSuppli's Tina Teng.
"From the spectacular growth of HTC and Samsung, to the steady advances of Motorola, Android is the secret sauce for smart phone growth for many companies in 2010."
