Nokia shipped 126.9 million mobile devices in Q4 2009, which it says gives it a 39 per cent global market share - up two percentage points from Q4 2008.
The company reported net sales of €12 billion, down 5 per cent year-on-year, but up 22 per cent sequentially.
Meanwhile, the company sold 20.8 million 'converged mobile devices' - the phrase it uses to describe smartphones and mobile computers - giving it a claimed 40 per cent share of that market globally.
The company sold around 4.6 million Nseries and 6.1 million Eseries smartphones during the quarter. Nokia also reported net sales for its Services division of €169 million, up 15 per cent compared to Q3.
"We grew our market share in smartphones in the fourth quarter, driven by the successful launch of new touch and QWERTY models," said CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo.
"Our performance in smartphones, combined with continuing success in the emerging markets, helped us increase sales in our Devices & Services unit, both quarter-on-quarter and year-on-year."
Nokia predicts that industry mobile device volumes will rise around 10 per cent in 2010, although it thinks its market share will remain flat.
In the announcement of the Q4 financials, Nokia reiterated that its Ovi Store is now generating more than one million downloads a day.
It also appears that a rebranding is on the way for its music offering, judging by this statement in the results: "In Russia, Nokia also launched Ovi Music, representing the first step of its plan to bring Nokia Music Store - our 22-strong chain of digital music stores - into the Ovi stable of services".
