Nikon has launched the D3100 entry-level DSLR camera which is the firm's first that can record full 1080p HD videos.
The D3100 is an update of the D3000 which Nikon claimed is the best selling DSLR camera to date. The new D3100 offers a 14.2 megapixel sensor, live view with new auto focus modes and improved ergonomics but it's the new video modes which set the product apart.
Users can record cinematic quality 24p video clips, or shoot at 24 or 30 frames-per-second at 720p for sharing online. Nikon say the D3100's NIKKOR lens delivers the sharpness needed for HD video, and Nikon's Vibration Reduction (VR) II technology helps to eliminate camera shake.
The D3100 is also the first D-SLR to implement full time AF for D-Movie video shooting and while in Live View mode the D3100 automatically focuses on subjects when Live View is activated to aid shooting when using the LCD.
"This is the ideal camera for families who want to capture all the important moments in perfect quality, without worrying about settings," said Nikon Europe product manager Jordi Brinkman.
"It also has the popular Guide Mode as seen on the D3000, which now shows you sample images of what you can achieve with certain settings, for example if you change the shutter speed or aperture. "
The camera will be available soon at a retail price of £579.99 / €599 with the 18-55mm VR lens.
