Sony unveiled its new range of 3D products today, many of which will be available from tomorrow – just in time for the first match of the World Cup.
PCR was at a sneak preview of the new products today, where the message from Sony execs was “making 3D is easy, making good 3D is hard”.
Among the list of new hardware were Bravia 3D TVs. The Cinematic range includes the HX803, available in 40-inch and 46-inch sizes, and the HX903 (out in July), which features backlit LED technology and comes in 46-inch and 52-inch. While the TVs are both 3D capable, users need to buy an additional transmitter and glasses to enjoy the technology.
The LX903, part of Sony’s Signature range, will also be available in July, featuring integrated 3D and LED tech and two pairs of bundled 3D glasses. It comes in 40-inch and 60-inch sizes and has a host of ‘smart features’ including a presence sensor, which switches off the programme if children sit too close. “It also works out what you’re watching and recommends relevant products,” said Christian Brown, a senior product manager at Sony Consumer Electronics.
Also on show was Sony’s new range of Blu-ray players – of which all but one will be 3D capable. The firm also announced that all new PlayStation 3s will be able to play back 3D. Four 3D PS3 games will be available to download from tomorrow.
“We have invested a significant amount of money in 3D technology that we believe delivers an unparalleled experience to consumers,” Brown said.
