A study has found that tech codes are being increasingly adopted into English slang.For example Code 404, which is displayed when an internet browser can’t find a specified page, has come to mean ‘clueless,’ according to the BBC.
Text messaging is also driving the adoption of new terms. The word ‘book’ has come to mean ‘cool’ due to the fact that they both use the same number combinations in predictive text.
However, although all these abbreviations and code make it easier to send a text, a study by the University of Tasmania found that it takes twice as long to read one of these messages than if it were written in standard English.
