The recent boom in netbooks sales has had the effect of boosting adoption and awareness of Linux, the chief technology and strategy officer of Novell Nat Friedman has claimed.Boldly claiming that the operating system is irrelevant, Friedman stated to ComputerWorld: "People typically don’t care what operating system is on the netbooks, because they don’t buy them to run a suite of applications like Microsoft Office but to be on the web using a web browser."
The comments come after the firm signed a deal with MSI to place its Linux distro on its Wind range of netbooks. Novell is reported to be in negotiations with Lenovo and HP to extend its SUSE distro to their netbook offerings.
