MSI has unveiled the MSI GX660 "performance gaming laptop" with Intel Core i7 CPU and ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics.
The 15.6-inch LED backlit laptop boasts top-shelf specs with three DDR3 RAM slots allowing up to 12GB of RAM. There's also two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports with an external eSATA port for storage. The laptop also offers MSI's TDE feature which boosts CPU performance at the touch of buttom, reminscent of the archaic turbo buttons on very early PCs.
MSI say the system speed can be increased by up to 83 per cent using the turbo, just as well there's another manual control for firing up the MSI "Cooler Boost" which increases system fans as well. Particular effort appears to have gone into the audio features of the GX660, based on on a joint venture with sound specialists Dynaudio.
The storage features on the GX660 are similarly high end with two 500GB SATA hard drives cramming in 1TB of storage into a laptop in a RAID 0 configuration for high read and write performance. The GX600 will ship with Windows 7 Home Premium and all that power comes at a weight penalty of 3.5 kilograms in total.
MSI had yet to unveil any pricing but further details are available here.
