A battery beefed-up version of the Motorola RAZR dubbed the RAZR Maxx is to launch in the UK next month, with the new Android handset boasting over 17 hours of talk-time.
High end Android smartphones have often suffered from anaemic batteries which often barely stretch to a day of average use but Motorola is one manufacturer that has often bucked the trend by fitting higher capacity batteries.
The Maxx version adds another couple of millimetres to the thickness of the device, going from 7mm to just 9mm. Still not particularly thick for a phone that boasts a mighty 3300mAh battery.
The UK version does without the 4G LTE functionality which will do even more for boosting the time between charges. Soon to be acquired by Google, Motorola launched the RAZR in October last year.
Armed with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 960 x 540 pixel 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display, 8-megapixel camera and a distinctively funky clipped-corner design, the RAZR is still on the vanguard of smartphone specs with one caveat, the Android OS.
Shipping with Android Gingerbread, the RAZR still has yet to be updated to Android Ice Cream Sandwich, with the firm saying a rollout would begin in the second quarter of this year.
With any luck the RAZR Maxx will launch with Android 4.0 ICS in the UK, but we wouldn’t be shocked if it didn’t.
