More women than men plan to buy their Christmas presents online this year, with 87 per cent saying they will compare prices on the web, research has found.
A study by shopping search engine Twenga found that 77 per cent of UK women will purchase gifts on the internet – increasing 16 per cent on last year to overtake men.
74 per cent of men said they would shop online this Christmas, a rise of 63 per cent on 2008.
As consumers become increasingly careful with money, 87 per cent of women and 78 per cent of men said they would compare prices online. However, 49 per cent of females said they would still want to see and touch products before making a purchase, compared to 31 per cent of men.
Key concerns among respondents included the possibility of late delivery, and the supposedly complicated process of returning items.
