Microsoft has announced it will be cutting an additional 800 jobs, on top of the 5,000 redundancies that the company announced in January.
A spokesman for the software giant told the Wall Street Journal that a total of 5,800 jobs were now due to be eliminated by 2010. The jobs being cut from Wednesday will be across a range of business units internationally, but no further details were given.
"I can confirm we're eliminating 800 jobs today," spokesman Lou Gellos said. "That's part of the larger program we announced in January."
When the original redundancy programme was announced, Microsoft said that it was expected to save Microsoft $1.5 billion a year.
