Microsoft has continued to see its market share ebbed away, according to the latest figures from Net Applications.Both Windows and Internet Explorer browser saw their market share drop, with the former seeing its share of internet using devices drop below the 90 per cent mark for the firm time to 88.3 per cent.
Internet Explorer also saw its share of the market hit heavily, with use of the browser dropping below the 75 per cent market to 67.6 per cent.
Much of the erosion has been caused by Apple's Mac operating system, which saw its share of internet using devices climb to just under ten per cent, at 9.9 per cent. That was up from the 7.6 per cent from the same time in 2008.
Linux also made an impact – albeit much smaller – seeing its share grow by 0.2 per cent to 0.8 per cent. However, it risks being overshadowed by Apple's iPhone, which saw its share of the browser market climb from 0.1 per cent in January 2008 to 0.5 per cent currently.
