Microsoft has launched a programme aimed at cutting down cyber crime and reducing potential losses from online fraud.
Internet Fraud Alert, which was created jointly with the National Cyber-Forensics and Training Alliance, allows participants to report stolen personal information or credit card numbers to the appropriate organisation.
“Through a centralized alerting system powered by Microsoft technology developed specifically for this program, Internet Fraud Alert will quickly inform companies about compromised credentials, allowing them to take the appropriate action to help protect their customers,” the software giant said in a statement.
The launch follows the revelation earlier this week that a quarter of people in the UK have fallen victim to online scams, with the average victim losing over £285.
