Sales of microchips rose just above global inflation during September, despite large volume sales of during the same month of PCs and other consumer electronics.According to the report by the Semiconductor Industry Association, sales in September reached $22.6 billion, compared to $21.3 per cent during the previous year. Third quarter sales rose from $64 billion to $67.8 billion: a rise of six per cent year-on-year.
The rise was largely due robust sales of semiconductors for traditional consumer applications, with them rising 35 per cent quarter-to-quarter as the manufacturers geared up for the busy Christmas season.
