Shipments of multifunction printers fell by 24.4 per cent during the first half of this year, according to the latest figures from Gartner.
A total of 18m units were shipped in EMEA, but the recession has hit the market particularly hard, the analyst firm said. "The impact of the global recession has been detrimental for consumers, businesses and vendors respectively during the first half of 2009,” commented senior analyst at Gartner, Tosh Prabhakar.
HP maintained a significant margin over its nearest rival Canon, despite a fall in shipments of 31.5 per cent. Meanwhile, third placed Epson saw its share of the market increase from 13 per cent to 14.4 per cent – just 1.7 per cent behind Canon – despite sales falling 16.3 per cent.
Gartner also warned that there is little hope for a second half recovery, with the analyst warning it could even see a fall of 30 per cent.
