Met e-Crime team nicks teen hackers

Teen hackers Zachary Woodham, 19 and Louis Tobenhouse, 18, were sentenced following convictions for computer misuse and fraud offences.

Arrested following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service's Police Central e-Crime Unit. Woodham was convicted of hacking into web hosting company 'Punkyhosting' over a number of weeks, causing it to cease trading.

The Met reported that Woodham even sent a taunting email "gloating about his actions," they said. Having been fingered in this investigation, a subsequent search warrant turned up evidence of a pattern of hacks aimed at casinos and betting companies.

The pair had obtained thousands of credit card details and Woodham had used some of those to launder money through operating premium chat lines.

DC Stuart Hosking of Police Central e-Crime Unit said: "Woodham and Tobenhouse chose to abuse their computer skills causing a considerable amount of financial loss and anxiety to a number of innocent people. Woodham in particular has shown himself to be a vindictive hacker with no sign of remorse towards any of his victims.

For the charge of hacking, Woodham was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, plus 240 hours of community service work. He also received a further six month suspended sentence and 120 hours community service for the charge of inciting crime, to be served concurrently.

His partner in crime Tobenhouse got off more lightly with 200 hours of unpaid work.

The Met also revealed that upon his arrest Tobenhouse said: "I will never get a job in IT now."
