Manufacturers cautious on Intel ultrabook shipments

Notebook manufacturers coming to the market with new Intel 'ultrabook' devices are reportedly not confident of high demand for the thin and like notebooks.

Industry gossip the DigiTimes said that major manufacturers such as  Acer, Lenovo, Toshiba and Asus were limiting their initial shipments to 50,000 units to 'test the water' they said.

With an array of ultrabooks set to appear in the retail channel in October worldwide, notebook manufacturers are apparently wary of going all in given continuing weak notebook demand and past experience with Intel CULV platforms.

Sources within the notebook manufacturing industry described Intel's claims that ultrabooks would account for 40% of the global consumer notebook market by 2012 as "difficult to achieve."
