Fixes the unencrypted password debug file flaw and updates Safari to 5.1.6.

Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 released

Apple have released an update for Mac OS X Lion, taking the version of up to 10.7.4 and fixing a recently discovered security bug that results in user passwords being logged to a debug file in plain text.

The so-called ‘FileVault’ bug effectively rendered Mac security useless given that a Mac can be externally booted via Firewire in order to view the unencrypted log file.

Other bugs fixed including improving compatibility with "certain British third-party USB keyboards" and fixes to the Microsoft SMB networking system for printing and file sharing.

OS X Lion 10.7.4 also now has native RAW image support for a wider range of digital cameras including the Nikon D4, D800 and the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and the PowerShot G1.

The update also bundles the Safari 5.1.6 web browser which contains a number of stability fixes and security updates. As usual for Apple, the small update is a massive download and 10.7.4 weighs in at 730MB.

The software can be downloaded from the Software Update feature in OS X.
