London has the lowest average mobile broadband speeds of any of the UK's largest cities, according to a new survey by uSwitch.com.
The speed results, which were crowdsourced from a 3G speed testing iPhone application. show that London's average download speed was 2.71Mb/sec, well short of the fastest British city Portsmouth on 3.55Mb/sec.
"Despite Government efforts to bring Britain into the digital age, it seems the road to seamless telecoms infrastructure is not an altogether smooth one," said uSwitch self-described technology expert.
"With consumers reporting patchy 3G coverage, and tests revealing that major UK cities, including London, are being left in the slow lane," Doku said.
Following Portsmith, Liverpool ranked second on 3.3Mb/sec, followed by Stoke-on-Trent at 3.3Mb/sec and Nottingham on 3.2Mb/sec.
London didn't get near the top 10, given the 10th fastest city was Leeds on 3.1Mb/sec.
"There is clearly a long road to travel before smartphone and tablet users can enjoy a web browsing experience akin to that of superfast broadband currently being rolled out across the country to homes and businesses," Doku said.
