Art Levinson has resigned his position on Google’s board of directors after serving as a director of both Apple and Google for the last five years.
According to the Financial Times, his resignation will take immediate effect and comes shortly after Eric Schmidt’s decision to stand down from Apple’s board in the midst of a federal investigation of the ties between the two companies.
Although there has been a reduction in ties between the two companies, several still remain. Former US vice president Al Gore and Intuit chairman Bill Campbell both sit on the Apple board while serving as advisors to Google.
“Art has been a key part of Google’s success these past five years, offering unvarnished advice and vital counsel on every big issue and opportunity Google has faced,” commented Google CEO Eric Schmidt. “Though he leaves as a member of our board, Art will always have a special place at Google.”
