Lenovo is set to make the firm’s long awaited debut into the Android tablet PC market with two 10.1-inch Android 3.1 Honeycomb devices, the IdeaPad K1 and the ThinkPad Tablet.
The IdeaPad K1 is a fairly standard 1Ghz Nvidia Tegra 2 powered device with a 10.1-inch 1280×800 screen. The device will also be offered in the usual range of storage and connection SKUs with 16 and 32GB flash models with Wi-Fi-only and 3G variants.
The IdeaPad K1 will ship around the 28th of July and is said to be priced at around the $449 to $599 according to an Engadget report. Engadget also have a hands-on with the device.
While the IdeaPad K1 is squarely aimed at consumers, for the business market Lenovo has busted out the ThinkPad brand for the ThinkPad Tablet which offers much the same specifications but the device adds a built-in stylus for recording notes and offers a an ‘Keyboard Folio’ case with a built-in keyboard as an optional extra.
The device is reportedly to begin shipping immediately, at least in the US market, and ThinkPad Tablet looks set to start at around $499.
Engaged did raise some concern at the level of ‘bloat ware’ shipped on the K1, with apparently 50 applications having been helpfully pre installed for you (with a nice cheque to Lenovo from the app devs). It’s not clear if the ThinkPad will be subject to the same or not.
