Laptops lead price falls

Laptops lead price falls The price of laptops, PCs and flat screen televisions continued to fall during March pushing down the average price of consumer electronics by five per cent, according to the British Retail Consortium's Shop Price Index.

The only other non-food sector that experienced a fall in prices was clothing and footwear with all other categories seeing rises during March.

Such was the decline in consumer electronic prices and clothing and footwear that the rises in other categories failed to push prices in to positive territory, with non-food slipping 0.5 per cent overall.

The BRC report also highlighted that consumer electronics prices fell by 0.4 per cent from February suggesting that price promotions and intense competition were continuing to drive down prices.

"The price of PCs and laptops continue to fall and as the popularity of flat-panel TVs begins to wane, retailers have continued to discount in order to drive sales," commented a spokesperson for the BRC.
