Amazon’s Kindle e-reader had its best ever month of sales in November, after receiving an international launch in October.
The Kindle beat its own sales record even before what in the US is called ‘Cyber Monday’ – the first Monday after Thanksgiving – traditionally the US’s busiest day of the year for electronics retail.
The device continues to be Amazon’s most “wished for”, the most gifted, and the top selling product across all categories.
“Kindle is a great gift for anyone who loves to read and it’s flying off the shelves faster than any other product Amazon sells,” said Ian Freed, Vice President, Amazon Kindle. “We’re seeing lots of people buying from one to a handful of Kindles as gifts for friends or family, as well as many businesses and other organizations buying Kindles in large quantities for their employees or customers.”
Kindle uses 3G wireless technology to downloads books, magazines, newspapers and personal documents to its high-resolution 6-inch electronic ink display, which is designed to read like real paper.
The Kindle Store offers more than 200,000 English-language books from over 1,000 different rights-holders, including publishers such as Faber and Faber, HarperCollins and Penguin.
Over 85 newspapers and magazines are also available in the Kindle Store for single purchase or subscription including The Times and the Washington Post.
The device is now available in 100 countries worldwide, after seeing an international launch on 19 October.
