JVC has announced that it will be shipping an AVCHD format camcorder next month, making it the latest firm to support the Blu-ray compatible codec. The firm's flagship consumer camcorder range, Everio, would be the first to launch supporting the codec, with the first models – the 120GB GZ-HD40 and the 80GB GZ-HD30 – arriving in the US this August. There is currently no word on a UK release.
It joins the format's original supporters Sony and Panasonic, who recently also new models that support the codec.
