Former Entatech director leaves the UK IT industry for a more creative role

Jon Atherton takes on new role

Jon Atherton has accepted a lucrative job offer following his departure from distributor Entatech.

The experienced IT channel exec – boasting some 27 years’ experience in the sector – has left it all behind to drive new business forwards in an entirely different sector.

Atherton will be moving to the motoring industry where he will be steering a hugely popular brand to new heights.

He will be replacing Jeremy Clarkson as the shock new presenter of popular BBC TV show Top Gear.

On early comparisons being made between between the two, and whether Atherton is well-known enough to replace such a public figure, Atherton told PCR: "Well, I haven’t hit anybody or complained about hot food!

He added: "It has been enlightening since leaving Enta. It is very humbling – the amount of people that want to speak to me, see me, help them. Do all sorts of stuff. I never expected to receive this amount of good wishes, best of lucks, come and help us type phone calls… it’s been very overwhelming.

"But my days of being a professional golfer are well and truly over. I’ve realised over the past few weeks I’ve got the yips at putting.

"I’m looking forward to swapping motherboards for motors. Gearboxes, clutch pedals, tyres… I can’t wait to muck in. Anyway, PC casing is basically the same as car bodywork, right? The motherboard is just like an engine. I’ll be fine."

Atherton starts his wheely good role today (Wednesday, April 1st) and his first show will be aired at the end of the month.

Fellow Top Gear presenters James May and Richard Hammond said in a joint statement: "Who?"

New Entatech commercial director Dave Stevinson was said to be ‘gutted’ upon hearing the news.
