January CES will be Microsoft's last

January CES will be Microsoft's last

Microsoft has announced that the January Consumer Electronics show will be the last for the software giant after many years of keynote speeches delivered by Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer.

Microsoft will now join Apple in setting up their own show for major new announcements. The move ends almost 20 years of exhibiting with the Consumer Electronics Association organised show.

"We’ll continue to participate in CES as a great place to connect with partners and customers across the PC, phone and entertainment industries, but we won’t have a keynote or booth after this year," said Microsoft veep Frank Shaw.

Shaw said that the reason for the move was that "product news milestones" don't fit well with the post-Christmas January CES show.

Microsoft's exit was being portrayed by Microsoft and the CEA as a 'mutual decision' but GigaOm claimed that a Microsoft insider said that the firm was "kicked out of the keynote", which it seems resulted in Microsoft deciding to exit the show altogether.
