Research has found that a significant percentage of IT workers don’t use all their holiday allowance, with half only taking time off to be with their family.
The survey, conducted by The IT Job Board, found that 34 per cent of respondents don’t use all their holiday allowance, with 29 per cent of those still retaining four to six days of holiday at the end of the financial year.
Part of the reason for this apparent dedication to duty is because forty per cent of the IT workers surveyed said that no one would cover their duties while they were off, meaning that they’d have to work doubly hard in the weeks preceding their break. As a result, 31 per cent of respondents admitted to feeling stressed in the run-up to their holiday.
Despite all these pitfalls, just under half of IT workers don’t take a laptop or smart phone with them, while 34 per cent felt they worked more efficiently after their holiday.
