According to new research from anti-virus firm Kaspersky Lab, 62 per cent of IT managers have concerns about security when it comes to adopting cloud computing.
A mere 41 per cent were planning to move or had moved IT operations to the cloud.
Data protection was a worry for sixty per cent of the IT managers and directors surveyed, while 26 per cent cited a perceived lack of regulation.
Perhaps as a result of these concerns, nearly one in five (18 per cent) said their businesses had considered but then decided not to move any part of their IT to the cloud. Twenty-four per cent had not considered the cloud at all.
Kaspersky feels businesses could be missing out. Andrew Lintell, corporate sales director for UK and Ireland, Kaspersky Lab, said: “Cloud technology has huge potential for streamlining IT operations, particularly in larger organisations with more sophisticated IT requirements. Cloud-based solutions can make IT systems leaner as well as more agile and cost effective – freeing up valuable IT expertise and resources.”
He continued: “Our research has found that there is still considerable confusion about the cloud. Companies may be concerned about where data is stored and how they can keep it secure, but they should also view the positive gains.”
Kaspersky Lab will be appearing at InfoSec at Stand C41. InfoSec is open to information security professionals from April 19th to 21st at Earl’s Court, London.
