The launch of Apple's iPad could be delayed past the scheduled March date due to a manufacturing bottleneck, an analyst has suggested.
"An unspecified production problem at the iPad’s manufacturer, Hon Hai Precision will likely limit the launch region to the US and the number of units available to roughly 300K in the month of March, far lower than the company’s initial estimate of 1,000K units," Canaccord Adams analyst Peter Misek wrote in a research note.
"It is also possible that, given the limited number of units available in March, the launch will be delayed for a month."
The analyst still thinks that Apple will sell 1.2 million iPads in its fiscal year 2010, which ends in September, and then 3.5 million units the next year.
The wi-fi only iPads were due to ship in the US this month, followed by wi-fi and 3G models in April. However, Apple has not yet announced shipping dates for either in Europe.
