The service which combines both Freeview channels and on-demand content has launched within the UK.
Its release comes two years after its initial launch date which was scheduled for 2010.
Users of the service will be able to view programmes broadcast during the previous week from a number of channels, including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel Five.
YouView also provides users with the ability to pause and rewind live TV.
The project was recently showcased by its non-executive chairman Lord Alan Sugar, who showed off a set-top box made by Humax which allows users to access t he service.
Youview will be made available in two ways – users are able to purchase a set-top box from retailers later this month with a one-off cost and no further subscription payments. Or, the service will be offered by a number of internet service providers as part of their broadband packages. BT and TalkTalk have already announced their plans to unveil packages including the service in the near future.
Lord Sugar revealed the services retail price of £299 but added he wouldn’t be surprised if it fell to £99 within a couple of years.
