Internet boosting IT sales

The internet is becoming more and more important to the consumer IT market, according to GfK.

The latest figures from the analyst show that etail now accounts for 25 per cent of the IT market's sales in value. It said that IT-focused online retailers had been particularly apt at securing consumers' stretched disposable incomes.

"As consumers are looking to cut costs they are becoming much more savvy at utilising all mediums to find the best deal for the goods that they want," commented GfK analyst Greg Allen.

"The internet now comprises 25 per cent of the value in the total IT market, and represents a key tool for them to save a few pennies in an otherwise challenging time."
