CHANNEL EXPO 2009: Chip giant details massive development war chest, reiterates commitment to UK channel

Intel to invest $7 billion

Intel’s Christine Harrison said the firm will spend $7 billion on 32nm development over the next two years, during its keynote speech at Channel Expo this morning.

The company said it is planning to have 15 billion connected devices in circulation over the next few years. "The UK market is evolving," she said, in reference to the increasing trend towards mobile computing devices.

The firm also insisted upon its commitment to the UK channel – which makes up 40 per cent of its business here – as part of the speech, highlighting the country’s importance in the global financial scheme as the fifth largest economy.

On the firm’s stand, the high end gaming laptop Novatech X1 was being exhibited for the first time. Elsewhere on show was the £10,000 Great White Shark desktop gaming rig, which comes loaded with no less than three graphics cards, and the touch screen Asus Eee Top PC was showing off the capabilities of the low cost Atom processor.
