Intel loses EU appeal for more time

Matt Grainger
Intel loses EU appeal for more time Intel’s ongoing antitrust lawsuit in the European courts has seen a new development as the chip vendors appeal for more time was rejected, reports the FT.

Intel had taken the unusual step of filing a complaint with the EU court of first instance, alleging that the commission’s probe had become “discriminatory and partial,” and that it needed more time to gather documentation from the accusatory party, AMD.

“The commission is pleased that the CFI president has confirmed that the commission's antitrust investigation should not be suspended,” read the CFI’s response. “The commission's investigation remains ongoing.”

The antitrust lawsuit was initiated when AMD alleged that Intel had been offering fiscal rebates to resellers who would favour Intel products to the detriment of AMD.
