Intel Media will deliver live and on-demand programming

Intel enters TV market

Intel has created a new company called Intel Media in a bid to compete in the smart TV market.

According to Reuters, the new company will create products that can deliver live TV as well as on-demand services, ‘catch-up’ programming and a new interface that Intel claims is better than any currently in use.

The set-top box that is in development will also include a high definition camera and microphone, allowing a wider range of applications than simply watching TV.

“There’s a scenario where the TV recognizes that it’s you and says ‘Hey, I know what you like. I know what you want to watch’, versus the environment we’re in today where the TV literally is not interested in you at all,” said the vice president and general manager of Intel Media, Erik Hugger, adding: “I think we can bring an incredible experience.”
