Intel has revealed its new Oak Trail processor family, which has been designed specifically for the emergent tablet category and is already being incorporated in to 35 products.
According to the BBC, the 45nm device – called the Z670 – is smaller and utilises less power than the Atom range of mobile processors and will be able to operate with a range of mobile operating systems including Android, MeeGo, Windows 7, and Google’s forthcoming operating system.
However, Conceivably Tech notes that Oak Trail may be simply the precursor to a better range of devices. It is likely to be superseded by Cedar Trail – a 32nm device that is expected to arrive in the second half of the year. However, little is known about these devices other than a sidenote about ‘lower consumption’.
