Intel acquires NFC modem tech in $19.2m deal

In a new agreement with Inside Secure, Intel is receiving the firm’s next generation NFC modem technology.

The $19.2 million deal sees the transfer of Inside Secure’s MicroRead-v5 NFC hardware and software modem technology, which is currently under development.

Intel will get ‘certain related tangible and intangible assets’, including some IP assets.

Intel will also offer employment to certain Inside Secure employees based in France and California.

In other Intel news, the chipmaker has launched a $100 million fund in China to make sure its chips get used in more smart devices.

The Intel Smart Device Innovation Centre will aim to get Chinese companies to develop Intel-based smartphones, wearables, tablets and hybrids.
