Samsung said that the firm is uninterested in buying WebOS from HP, scotching speculation that the Android specialist was considering a bid for the operating system.
According to a Bloomberg report Samsung Choi Gee Sung said that the firm would ‘never’ pursue a move to acquire the operating system HP first acquired from Palm before the firm’s aborted move to manufacturing WebOS-powered devices.
Choi said that "it’s not right that acquiring an operating system is becoming a fashion," adding that firm was already working on improving software engineering and that it was "harder than people outside think."
Making the comments at the IFA show in Berlin, Samsung earlier unveiled a 7.7-inch tablet called the Galaxy Tab 7.7 but a couple of days into the show removed the device from display due to fears that showing the device was flouting an existing ban on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
The German court in banning the larger tablet from sale had noted that using a later version of Google’s Android OS would have sidestepped the Apple complaint. The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is set to ship Android Honeycomb but it seems the firm is taking no chances.
