Samsung has also showcased the Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge

IFA 2014: Samsung unveils Gear VR

Samsung has announced details of its first virtual reality headset at IFA.

The Gear VR is a virtual reality headset powered by the Galaxy Note 4, which was also showcased at Samsung’s IFA press event.

Built in partnership with Oculus, the maker of the Oculus Rift, the Gear VR uses the Note 4 for all its processing and display features. The device snaps into the Gear VR in front of dual-lenses to provide a 3D effect.

Compatible with Bluetooth gaming controllers, the Gear VR also has a track pad and back button on its right hand side.

The Note 4 features a 5.7-inch display and is the only mobile device, Samsung or otherwise, that is compatible with the Gear VR.

Samsung also unveiled the Note Edge phablet, which comes with a curved glass screen wrapped around one side of the device.
