IFA 2014: Microsoft and HTC unveil mid-range smartphones

Microsoft has introduced the Lumia 830, which it describes as its first affordable Windows Phone flagship device, while HTC has unveiled the mid-range Desire 820, at this year’s IFA tech trade show.

Microsoft’s Luma 830 comes with Windows Phone 8.1, a 10MP rear camera and a €330 price tag in Europe.

It will start shipping this month, featuring a number of Microsoft’s products and service such as Office and OneDrive. Some markets will also get Cortana.

The 830 has a removable back and supports wireless charging.

Meanwhile, IFA 2014 has also seen HTC showcase its 5.5-inch Desire 820 smartphone, which comes with a Qualcomm Ocra-Core 64-bit processor, making it the second HTC device to sport 64-bits.

The mid-range device comes with an 8MP front facing camera, 13MP rear camera, Android 4.4 KitKat, and LTE support.

The smartphone appears to be photography-focused and comes with a few different photo-editing apps.

There is no pricing for the Desire 820 yet, but the device is expected to be available ‘later this fall’.
