The use of virtualised servers is on the increase according to the latest report from market research firm IDC.The report shows that while 35 per cent of servers sold during 2007 were being virtualised, around 52 per cent of those bought this year would end up being used to virtualise services.
It also found that around 58 per cent of those questioned who are not currently using the technology, believe that they will be within the next 18 months.
Speaking about the results, IDC's consulting and research director Chris Ingles said: "Virtualisation use has exploded since our last survey of the European market. Both large organisations and smaller businesses are using the technology for a wider range of applications and for business critical projects.
"As use of virtualization grows the challenges around managing complexity, finding skills and software licensing become more apparent."
