ICT market grows

The market analyst Ovum has reported sequential growth for the third quarter of 2009, with revenues of $59.8 billion, following six consecutive quarters of shrinkage.

According to Ovum’s figures, software and IT services increased by 3.6 per cent over the previous quarter to $28.3 billion, although this still represented a 4.9 per cent decline year-on-year.

In the meantime, business process consulting generated revenues of $18.6 billion, which represented a quarterly rise of 2.4 per cent, while telecom infrastructure services increased by 0.6 per cent to $12.8 billion. However, despite these rises, both segments declined by 6.6 per cent and 8.6 per cent respectively.

“Revenues were still down almost 5% year-over-year, but that is a lot less than in the first and second quarters,” said Ovum’s vice president, John Lively.

“The trend shows clear improvement and suggests the worst of the recession impact is over.”
