Celebrating 100 years in the business, IBM had produced two documentaries in he IBM Centennial Film series.
With music by Phillip Glass, the 30-minute IBM Centennial Film is introduced by Ralph Gomory, director of IBM Research in the 70s and early 80s. The documentary called "They Were There - People who changed the way the world works," interviews to a number of the computing pioneers.
"I had to write a couple of programs and I could see the possibilities. You could do anything with a computer. I was convinced that computers could really change the world. If you've time for a story, I'll tell you why," says Gomory.
Amusingly one of the YouTube comments comes from someone who identifies themselves as having worked for IBM in the early to late 80s. "I had a manager tell me in an indirect way that if I didn't get my haircut I would not be moving any further within the company."
Another of the videos provided by IBM in the Centenniel Film series is "100 X 100 - A century of achievements that have changed the world", which introduces the achievements of 100 years of IBM's business with a short statement from people born in that particular year.
