IBM and Amazon settle lawsuit

IBM and Amazon settle lawsuit
IBM has dropped its lawsuit against Amazon in exchange for a cash payout and a cross license agreement.

The patent violation case began last October, when HP accusing the online retailer of wilfully violating IBM patents covering ‘such services as allowing users to order items from an electronic catalogue and displaying internet advertising,’ reported The Register.

The concept of ecommerce is clearly a controversial issue. Amazon itself has taken out numerous patent infringement cases of its own against companies it sees as in violation of its one click ordering patent.

On behalf of IBM, general manager of software IP, Dan Ceruti said in a statement: “We’re pleased this matter has been resolved through negotiation and licensing. We look forward to a more productive relationship with Amazon in the future.”
