Chinese telco equipment maker Huawei has inked a deal with British mobile operator Everything Everywhere to replace the firm's entire 2G mobile network.
The upgrade, due to be carried out over the next four years, will offer broader coverage due to increased radio sensitivity. The new network will also be upgradable to next-generation 4G radio standards.
The major infrastructure deal is expected to be worth hundreds of millions of pounds, including new base stations and other networking equipment. The equipment being replaced was a mixture of older Nokia Siemens, Ericsson and Nortel.
A Register report said that the Huawei upgrade will also boost indoor coverage and provide boosted sound quality akin to "HD Voice" on 3G networks.
The deal doesn't include the jointly operated Three and T-MObile 3G network.
