Firm unveils the entry-level Ascend W1, which is powered by Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 OS

Huawei and O2 to offer entry-level Windows Phone

Huawei is to bring its budget Ascend W1 Windows Phone to the UK after announcing its exclusive partnership with O2.

The Ascend W1 packs a four-inch IPS LCD 480×800 screen, in addition to a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor and Adreno 305 GPU.

Despite being an entry-level device, the W1 also offers a five-megapixel camera with LED flash and 4GB of on-board storage, which is expandable up to 32GB via microSD.

Powering the device is Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 operating system, which features the OS’ recognisable live tiles and dynamic lock screen, which features the user’s preferred information and content when they need it.

It will be available through the provider from March 7th for £119.99 PAYG and free through selected monthly contracts.

Launching in ‘Electric Blue’, the Ascend W1 will also be launched in ‘Electric Pink’ in the UK from March 18th.

The announcement of the device comes as Huawei looks to bolster its presence in the smartphone market at this year’s Mobile World Conference.

Just yesterday, the firm lifted the lid on its Ascend P2 smartphone, which is pegged as the "world’s fastest" 4G LTE device.
