Hewlett-Packard is finalising plans to combine its printer and PC divisions into one unit, according to reports.
Sources told the Wall Street Journal that details and timeframe of HP’s restructuring aren't yet firm, and rely on the approval of CEO Mark Hurd.
The new combined unit would reportedly be led by current PC boss Todd Bradley, but it is unclear how Vyomesh Joshi, who heads HP’s printer arm, would be involved in the new operation.
According to the WSJ’s sources, Hurd started planning the reorganisation when it started to look like the company’s printer business was stagnating.
HP merged its printer and PC divisions previously in 2005, when previous CEO Carly Fiorina tried to boost the PC arm by folding it into the then more successful printer division. Fiorina was sacked the same year and the two divisions were separated once Hurd took over.
