HP is cutting 9,000 jobs across its Enterprise Services division as part of transformation plans that involve creating fully-automated data centres.
According to the firm, the redundancies will be made over several years in order to “reinvest for further growth and to increase shareholder value”.
In a statement to PCR, HP said: “HP also announced that during the same period we are eliminating positions, HP also plans to replace approximately 6,000 of those positions to increase sales and delivery services.
“These actions are subject to local consultations with employee representatives.”
The firm added that it would not provide geographical locations of the job cuts until final decisions had been made.
The job cuts are part of a $1 billion development programme for HP Enterprise Services, which involves consolidating the commercial data centres, management platforms, networks, tools and applications and creating fully-automated commercial data centres.
In April, HP narrowly avoided two rounds of strikes in five Enterprise Services locations across the UK. Jim Hanson, of trade union PCS, told PCR at the time that one of the demands was job security. The strikes were suspended in order for negotiations to continue.
