Speaking at this year's IT Show in Singapore, HP's vice president Personal Systems Group APAC and Japan, Chin Hon Cheng said: "There are people who want to buy and they are waiting to buy," adding that the vendor had been seeing strong demand for both consumer laptops and desktops. "I think it's going to stabilise."
It was a sign that was echoed by IDC APAC director of personal systems research, Bryan Ma. But he warned that signs of growth were not concrete proof that demand was returning to the market. "It's a reason to be happy, but it doesn't mean the clouds have cleared.
"We are seeing some indication there is a bit of a respite on the consumer side and maybe a glimmer of hope," added Ma. "[But] even if there is an increase on the consumer side, it might not be enough to offset the slow momentum overall."
