Hewlett-Packard ordered over three million laptops from Taiwanese ODMs in August, suggesting that the computer giant expects a busy Christmas shopping period.
According to Digitimes, HP ordered around 3.2 to 3.3 million notebooks from Taiwan's four largest ODMs last month – an increase of 15 per cent month-on-month.
In August, HP reportedly ordered more than a million units from Inventec and about 700,000 units each from Quanta Computer and Compal Electronics, while Wistron saw orders increase by 30,000-50,000 units compared to July.
An unnamed industry source said that the company is set to order another 3.5 million units in September, due to the upcoming festive season and Microsoft’s launch of Windows 7.
Digitimes’ source added that Acer is expected to become the leader in the notebook market in September, possibly shipping over 3.6 million of them. The firm could also ship over nine million units in Q3, narrowing the gap with HP to just 200,000 unit shipments.
