VIA has announced that HP is set to launch a Compax DX2020 desktop machine based on its C7-D microprocessor.
The news represents somewhat of a breakthrough for Via, which has had a relatively low profile in the commercial desktop market for a long time. The desktop system itself will be aimed at the enterprise market in Chinese cities.
Specification wise, the 20 watt machine includes a 1.5GHz C7-D, the CN700 ‘digital media chipset’, and the Unichrome Pro II integrated graphics processor,” according to The Inquirer. It will support up to 1GB of DDR2 533 memory, a serial ATA drive up to 160GB, six USB ports – two of them at the front of the black box, Ethernet, and measures 36.7 x 17.5 x 42mm. It comes with security application Strongbox which is based on its Padlock system. It’s claimed the system will use Windows XP.
