Chinese customers are seeking a legal means to force Hewlett Packard to issue a recall of certain laptops sold since 2007.
According to the Financial Times, the group of 170 people have alleged that their HP laptops have suffered malfunctioning screens and massive overheating, with a problem that may be due to faulty graphics cards produced by Nvidia.
Although HP offered an extension to warranties at the time, the group is arguing that the solution was not thorough enough. It is currently lobbying the Chinese General Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) to launch an investigation.
“We have also noticed that HP in the US offered consumers extended warranty periods for even more models and compensated them for transport costs, but in China, it has not made a statement or offered services, and openly discriminated against Chinese consumers,” read the complaint.
